What to include with every consultation file.

Sending complete packages helps us keep Elders, leadership and enforcement teams informed without delays.

  • 1. Provide project context

    Outline the proponent, regulatory body and any permits that triggered consultation.

    • Include proponent’s Indigenous Engagement Policy
    • Include ACO FN file numbers; CER/AER/IAAC file numbers and disposition IDs.
    • Describe location using township/range, GPS coordinates or river reference points.
  • 2. Share technical documents

    Attach surveys, maps, mitigation plans and impact assessments.

    • Include previous Indigenous knowledge studies (TLUs) or research
    • Include HRA reports of project footprint of local study area
    • Highlight potential effects to land, water, wildlife or cultural resources.
    • Clearly identify timelines for construction, monitoring and reclamation.
  • 3. Identify engagement needs

    Let us know what type of participation or decisions you are requesting.

    • Community meetings, site visits or technical workshops.
    • Requested deliverables such as letters of comment or accommodation measures and budget for our capacity.
  • 4. Follow Up Meeting

    Upon submission of project notification you will receive a notification response letter, Piikani Nation Assessment and Procedure Guidance document and Piikani Charter for you to review.

    • Upon your completion of your review of our response package, please set up a meeting with our department to review your notification.

Follow up meeting

Our representatives will coordinate a meeting to discuss your project in detail, clarify project objectives, Indigenous engagement expectations, timelines, and budget.

Initial Technical and Rights Review

Within 20 business days (dependent upon size and project scope)

Environment, Indigenous (Treaty and Aboriginal) Rights review, legal and land teams deployed to analyze the proponent materials, identify data gaps and request further clarifications.

Comprehensive Analysis

Within 45 days (dependent upon size and project scope)

Complete Indigenous and Cultural Rights Assessment, Environmental assessment, legal and lands teams analyze the materials, develop final analysis report.

We brief Piikani leadership, share potential accommodation pathways and confirm engagement expectations.
